"Look! The Beautiful Country!", theocratic maps?
by VM44 ini have read here in some posts that one of the new releases this year is a brochure, "look!
the beautiful country!
", containing maps.. when it was released, does anyone know if the speaker mentioned how much better the maps in the brochure were than "worldly maps"?.

Does our little crusade matter to the world?
by sleepy indoes our little crusade matter to the world?.
considering jw's make up such a small part of the worlds population to what extent do our beefs with the organisation matter to anyone unconnected?.
should our opinions of witness beliefs concern people more than witness themselves .should everyone have the right to make up there own mind and chose to be witnesses without us interfereing?.

No, the world doesn't give a hoot about the crusade, doesn't understand it and doesn't want to. Most of the world will see the crusaders as being about on the same plane as Witnesses if they even give it a thought.

It's actually a pretty decent set of maps, even though the scale is nor particularly useful and given the scale, errors of a few miles don't make any difference. The talk I heard made it sound like they'd invented cartography. They just can't keep from beating the drum.
To be fair, there has been considerable manipulation of maps for political purposes in the past, like a couple of hundred years ago and more, but not any more because accurate maps are so readily available.

A reality check for JW's and ex-JWs...
by logansrun ini'm currently taking a course in cultural anthropology to fulfill a college requirement and thought i'd share something from one of the textbooks we are using.
in the book, "extraordinary groups -- an examination of unconventional lifestyles" ethnographer william w. zellner relates his findings when he spent some time studying the jehovah's witnesses.
he relates of an experience he had when attending a convention: .

Strange, since they've never had a problem with registering for the draft and every year there's an announcement that 18 year olds are required to register. I've also never heard one thing said about the Equal Rights amendment. Where do people get this stuff?

Voting Bush out
by Jayson inwhat is the best campaign stratagy to win against him?
be serious this is to win the minds of american voters not to polerize them against you.
otherwise it's a plug for him.. i think that the one real weakness is unemployment in america.

Wesley Clark? NO chance. Howard Dean? You must be joking, Bush will take 49 states. Hillary? Long, long shot, I don't think the woman can be elected president under and circumstances, too many negatives. They don't even like her in New York now, poll numbers dropping steadily.
Democrats are living in fantasy land if they think any one of these three can do the job.

The 10 point resolution adopted at the 2003 District Conventions
by crownboy inas most of you probably already know, from time to time the watchtower society likes to use district conventions as a platform for adopting silly resolutions, which more than likely are forgotten by the people who gave their approval to it by the time they leave the parking lot of the convention.
this year, during the final talk of the convention (talk entitled: "keep bearing much fruit to jehovah's glory"), a ten point resolution was adopted, with all the baby seal-like clapping following its adoption.
here's the main jist of the ten points (i didn't copy it word for word):.

My observation was that people didn't get too excited over this, many just looked like the wondered what was going on and when was it going to be over.

My JW Husband Got a "Privilege" Back - UGH!
by worldlygirl inmy jw husband came home from his meeting yesterday a little later than usual, and when i asked him where he had been, he said he had to meet with the elders after the meeting.
well, it seems that even though he is reinstated, he has to ask for each of his"privileges" back one at a time.
nothing like prolonging the agony!!

This is pretty strange. You aren't supposed to have to ask for your privileges back, they're just given to you when the committee think's you're ready.

expatbrit your own comments show that this trust is actively traded, that it didn't hold the Phillip Morris stock and then it did. No evidence has been presented that says the Wt controls the trust and by what stretch of the imagination they should be held responsible for the day-to-day trading activities of the trust escapes me. This is an issue only for the ignorant. I truly hope that something massive happens to the organization and sooner rather than later but this trumpeting of this kind of nonsense detracts from real issues. The " a little leven" comments from many here show they have no understanding of the application of the scripture whatsoever, by their lights, Jesus was irrevocably damaged because a prostitute washed his feet.
Zev you can stick it in your ear. You know nothing about me or what I do so stuff it.
